”I didn´t read your hints” book collaboration
During the Photobok Festival Oslo I released my first photobook made in collaboration with photographer Meggan Gould of New Mexico, USA.
The book «I didn´t read your hints» functions as a report of our collaborative project running from 2014 to 2019. Across the Atlantic we have explored how to truly make a collaborative photograph through a process of shared film and double exposures in the blind.
One of us would makes a series of up to 8 images on a large format camera analogue camera and mail the film cassettes off to the other one. A second series of pictures was then shot by the other photographer on top of the first. Sometimes we would share loose hints on how we had photographed but we would never include information on subject matter or specific content of the images shot. More importantly we had a paralell ongoing conversation in letters and emails on developments in our different personal lives and separate artistic practices. On the film the thoughts intermingle and the images merge all by themselves. Through this collaboration we scrutinize our own thought processes, trying to understand how an artist expect another artists work to be.
For a first print run we made 10 handmade copies, inkjet printed on double sided photo paper with text pages made on an office laser printe and spiralbound with a handmade cardboard cover. The book was launched during the photobook festival in Oslo with a short presentation at the Photographers Gallery and an exhibition and a talk at CYAN studio photobook café. Meggan Gould took part by online video link and Laara Matsen interviewed us in front of an audience.
